NESTA is the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts - an independent body with a mission to make the UK more innovative.
NESTA invests in early-stage companies, informs policy and delivers practical programmes that inspire others to solve the big challenges of the future. NESTA does not work alone - it depends on the strength of the partnerships with innovators, policymakers, community organisations, educators and other investors. With partners, NESTA brings the best ideas, new capital and talented people together and encourages others to develop them further.
The creative and digital industries have been identified as critical to the UK’s cultural and economic success, contributing more than £50 billion to the economy every year, therefore form a key part of NESTA’s policy and practical work. NESTA is also applying its expertise to find innovative ways of delivering public services by trialling and scaling new solutions, including through exploring the potential of a networked, digital world. Examples are Reboot Britain, which tests the potential of digital technology to transfer public services www.nesta.org.uk/areas_of_work/public_services_lab/reboot_britain and Make it Local, which opens up publicly owned data www.nesta.org.uk/areas_of_work/public_services_lab/make_it_local
